The HYPERDESIGN project and the collaboration with ACTA

Artshell's technological contribution to HYPERDESIGN is developed as part of the project presented by ACTA - Action through Architecture, the humanitarian and sustainable architecture studio founded by Bonaventura Visconti di Modrone and Leo Bettini Oberkalmsteiner, based in Niamey (Niger), and Zurich (Switzerland). Maidan is a project developed under the auspices of the International Organization for Migration (an agency linked to the United Nations) that saw the light of day in 2018 in the refugee camp of Ritsona, Greece, on the border with Macedonia, thanks in part to fundraising efforts.

With a diameter of 16 meters, a rigid aluminum and steel structure, and a fabric cover that is resistant to water, wind, and fire, Maidan is a structure, full of light and air, born out of long community engagement work. Thanks to its circular shape and eight-segmented structure -- each of which provides two concentric areas -- the tent fulfills both the task of developing privacy and the social and participatory role of "square" that is disappearing today.

An immersive experience

Thanks to Artshell Curator technology, Maidan at HYPERDESIGN doubles as a virtual exhibition environment where one can experience the social impact of the architecture itself, with an "exhibition within an exhibition" of the documentation taken in Ritsona by photographer Delfino Sisto Legnani.

Set up in the multi-user metaverse, usable with the Meta Quest oculus present inside the MA*GA, the Maidan tent becomes the setting for an immersive experience that sustainably gives the HYPERDESIGN audience the opportunity to delve into the project of the ACTA studio, which is physically present outside the museum, by observing the results of its activation thanks to Sisto Legnani's author reportage, but without the installation of the actual photographs in the museum spaces with the associated problems and costs.

Visit the exhibition: Maidan Tent

Within Artshell Curator it is possible to virtually visit the photographic exhibition documenting the Ritsona project. The interactive virtual reality exploration is also available online on this page, so as to broaden its usability to those who physically cannot visit the HYPERDESIGN exhibition, while still giving them the opportunity to inhabit the architecture of Maidan firsthand.
